5 Questions with Megan Patterson About SaskPower’s New Online Energy Assessment
May 8, 2017
When it comes to saving money at home or in your business, it’s much easier when you can see the big picture. That’s why we’re launching a new tool—The Online Energy Assessment—to help you understand just how much power and natural gas you’re using.
We sat down with Megan Patterson, Program Consultant at SaskPower, to learn more about the tool and what it can do for you.
What is the Online Energy Assessment tool?
The Online Energy Assessment tool is a simple (and free!) way to get tailored suggestions that can result in savings on your power and natural gas bills. It takes into account your lighting, heating, insulation, appliances and even the weather in your area to estimate the amount and cost of the power and natural gas you’re using. It provides a really informative breakdown of the different factors that contribute to the total cost and a monthly consumption analysis, that gives customers the “power to save”
There are two separate tools—one for homes and one for businesses. The business tool looks at many of the same factors as the home assessment but also uses assumptions based on your specific business and building type to estimate the power and natural gas used.
How do I use the tool?
Simply go to our website. Each tool requires you to enter some basic building and usage information. The tool then calculates and provides suggestions on the best ways you can save whether it’s simple, free efficiency tips or links to relevant efficiency programs we offer, like our Retail Discount Program.
How does it benefit me at home?
Looking to renovate? Using the tool, you can break down your usage and compare it to previous months. The Home Online Assessment could help you prioritize improvements to achieve maximum savings on future bills. But you don’t have to be renovating to use the tool. Even modest change can lead to savings. Visit saskpower.com/homeaudit to get started now.
I have a small business. Can I use the tool?
This tool is great for small and medium size businesses. It provides information on where your energy dollars are going, will give you a breakdown of your bill from month to month and compare it year over year. Visit saskpower.com/businessaudit to check it out.
You’re a power company - why are you talking about natural gas?
We know that to you, being energy efficient probably means seeing the full picture, of all the energy you’re using. That includes electricity and natural gas, so we’ve given you the richest tool we could to assess the total energy use of your home. We’ve worked with SaskEnergy to get the most current natural gas rates – feel free to visit their website after you have done the assessment for even more tips on how to save.
