BD3 Status Update: March 2018
April 10, 2018
In March, the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility at Boundary Dam Power Station reached a significant milestone surpassing two million tonnes of carbon dioxide captured since startup in October 2014. The facility was available 99.7 per cent of the time with a minor electrical fault causing a short, two-hour outage.
The CCS facility captured 79,185 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which represents 79 per cent of its maximum capacity, and no maintenance outages were required throughout the month. The ongoing reliability of plant equipment has allowed the CCS facility to stay online longer with fewer interruptions. The facility also continues to benefit from upgrades installed in the summer of 2017.
A planned outage is scheduled for the first week in May to assess and clean equipment following this significant production run.
