The Procurement Department is responsible for implementing corporate procurement policies and procedures for SaskPower. Our two key objectives are:
- To procure goods and services that provide best value for SaskPower by being innovative, efficient and flexible; and
- To conduct all procurement functions and activities in such a manner that community, public and supplier relationships are maintained while applying professional business standards.
SaskPower Procurement is in compliance with the New West Partnership Trade Agreement (NWPTA) — Canada’s largest, barrier-free, interprovincial market. The NWPTA eliminates barriers to trade, investment and labour mobility, while enhancing competitiveness, increasing opportunities and reducing costs for governments, workers, investors, consumers and businesses.
Competitive tendering at SaskPower
Competitive tendering is the preferred procurement method for purchasing goods and services for SaskPower. Our competitions are posted online at Merx and SaskTenders
Closed tender opening process
We utilize a closed tendering process, meaning that bidders cannot attend tender openings. We do not disclose information on the names or numbers of companies submitting bids, or on competing vendor pricing contained in a tender or request for proposal bid submission.
Consideration to diversity in procurement activities
We value and actively support diversity, and ensure all groups have the ability to compete on goods and services.
Our national affiliations
We are a member of the Electric Utility Quality Committee (EUQC). The EUQC includes representatives from the major electric utilities who are dedicated to increasing quality awareness in the utility industry and promote local suppliers to other members across Canada.
