SaskPower provides approximately $1 million annually, supporting hundreds of events and activities across Saskatchewan.
Canada Summer Games 2005
Through a partnership with the University of Regina’s Building Dreams and Futures campaign, SaskPower played a major role in the sponsorship of the 2005 Canada Summer Games held in Regina. Through SaskPower’s support, a number of sporting venues were upgraded and continue to be used by young people from across Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan Curling Association (SCA)
SaskPower is proud to support major women’s curling events across Saskatchewan. As the title sponsor, SaskPower partners with the Saskatchewan Curling Association (SCA) to deliver four major curling events: the SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts; the SaskPower Southern and Northern Women’s Playdowns; and the Provincial Natural Ice Women’s Bonspiel. Over our 12 years of partnership with the SCA, SaskPower has sponsored major women’s curling events from Meadow Lake in the northwest to Nipawin in the northeast; and from Maple Creek in the southwest to Estevan in the southeast.
Saskatchewan Express
SaskPower has been the presenting sponsor of Saskatchewan Express (SaskExpress) since 1998. The troupe has been a musical ambassador for Saskatchewan and has traveled extensively throughout the province.
Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games
SaskPower is proud to be a sponsor of both the Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games. The Games, which are held every two years alternating between summer and winter sports, are one of province’s premiere sporting events. SaskPower has sponsored the Saskatchewan games in Humboldt, Weyburn, Melfort, and Lloydminster.
Saskatchewan Book Awards and Reading Tour
Since 1995, SaskPower has been a sponsor of the Award for Fiction at the Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA). SaskPower is also an annual sponsor of the SBA Reading Tour whereby short-listed authors read from their works in a chosen Saskatchewan town.
Hospital Foundations
SaskPower’s sponsorship of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care within the Regina General Hospital provides a new, larger and redesigned space for the Labour and Birth Unit, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Maternity Unit, and nurseries. This sponsorship serves the southern part of the province.
SaskPower’s sponsorship of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation Inc. in Saskatoon supports the Urology Centre of Health in a facility that is an acute care teaching hospital offering a comprehensive range of services to residents of Saskatchewan. This sponsorship is dedicated to the Urology Centre specializing in the detection and treatment of prostate cancer. This centre is provincial in nature.
United Way
Wherever SaskPower employees are involved in their local United Way campaign province-wide, SaskPower matches employees contributions by 75 per cent. Regina, Saskatoon, Estevan, Weyburn, Prince Albert and North Battleford have been the recipients of SaskPower and its employees’ contributions. Annually, the donation is approximately $120,000.
RCMP Heritage Centre
SaskPower is a $200,000 funding partner with the RCMP Heritage Centre, which tells the story of the RCMP through the use of state-of-the-art exhibits, multimedia technologies and educational programming..
Government House
In 2003 SaskPower contributed $75,000 to the Government House Foundation for their Saskatchewan Government House Centennial Project. The goal of the project was to develop Government House into a tourist destination, featuring the existing museum as well as a new interpretive centre, carriage house, central hall, gift shop and enhanced education programs.
Government House is a national historic site which provides an educational and historical treasure for all Canadians. This project was completed for Saskatchewan’s Centennial Celebrations in 2005.
SaskPower Diversity Awards
SaskPower offers 15 diversity awards of up to $1,500 each to students from four identified groups (Aboriginal people, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and women in under-represented occupations) to attend an accredited, provincial post-secondary institution.
Women of Distinction Awards
SaskPower’s partnership with the Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert YWCA’s Women of Distinction Awards program offers the corporation an opportunity to recognize women in under-represented occupations.
Quota International Women’s Recognition Programs
SaskPower proudly supports and sponsors programs in both Weyburn and Estevan through the local chapters of Quota International. Both programs honour and recognize achievements by women in the cities of Weyburn and Estevan and surrounding areas. SaskPower has designated their support to sponsoring awards which recognize outstanding achievements made by women in the workplace.
Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan (LDAS)
SaskPower partners with LDAS to present the Summer Sunshine Day Camps for children with learning disabilities. Throughout July and August, three two-week camps are offered to children ages 7-12. With a small student-teacher ration, children focus on science, reading and nutrition.
Saskatchewan Women in Trades and Technology (SaskWITT)
Saskatchewan Women in Trades and Technology develops and delivers career exploration programs to girls and women in Saskatchewan. SaskPower has provided funding for various initiatives, including Construction Technology for Women high school credit program for grades 11 and 12, Girls Exploring Trades and Technology (GETT) Camps for grades 7 and 8, and the provincial Young Women’s Conference.
Special Olympics Saskatchewan
SaskPower partners with Special Olympics Saskatchewan to deliver training for life breakfasts to the business communities in Swift Current and Prince Albert. These events aim to increase awareness of the needs of Special Olympics Saskatchewan and are co-hosted with the two Western Canada Hockey League teams – the Prince Albert Raiders and the Swift Current Broncos.
Saskatchewan Voice of People with Disabilities
SaskPower has been a funding partner on several initiatives by Saskatchewan Voice of People with Disabilities, including the Self-Help Guide to Independent Living. This guide is a comprehensive resource tool that assists those with disabilities in accessing critical services, including employment, health, education, finance, justice, transportation and housing.

Northern Reading Program
SaskPower and the Pahkisimon Nuy?eah Library System partner to present the Northern Reading Program. To encourage the long-term goal of improving literacy, the program promotes the enjoyment of learning to read, write, and work with numbers.
Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) Summer Science Camps
SaskPower sponsors the FSIN Summer Science Festival, which is held across the province during the summer months. The purpose of the program is to generate a love of science and math among First Nations youth.
Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games and Winter Games
Saskatchewan First Nations Summer and Winter Games are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer games. SaskPower is proud to provide funding to the host committee to provide sponsorship to the games. The last three summer games have been hosted by Flying Dust First Nation, Meadow Lake; Kawacatoose First Nation, Raymore; and Red Pheasant First Nation, North Battleford. The winter games supported by SaskPower have been hosted by the Eastern Sector First Nations in Nipawin; the Gordon First Nations, and File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council in Regina.
National Aboriginal Day
On June 21 each year, Canadians across our country celebrate National Aboriginal Day. This provides an opportunity to celebrate the unique heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people in Canada. SaskPower sponsors a number of events throughout Saskatchewan on this day each year.
Saskatchewan First Nations Circle of Honour
The Saskatchewan First Nations Circle of Honour Gala is held annually to recognize First Nations people who have demonstrated tremendous achievements, discipline, vision and excellence.
Saskatchewan Potash Interpretive Centre
SaskPower is a proud donor to the Saskatchewan Potash Interpretive Centre in Esterhazy. This showcase for the province’s potash industry replicates an underground potash mine.
Business Excellence Awards
To recognize the businesses of Saskatchewan, SaskPower sponsors the Business Excellence Awards in nearly a dozen locations across the province. From Meadow Lake in the northwest to Nipawin in the northeast, and from Swift Current in the southwest to Assiniboia in south-central Saskatchewan, the Business Excellence Awards put the spotlight on Saskatchewan’s business community.
Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA)
SUMA is the umbrella organization for 465 communities throughout Saskatchewan. SaskPower regularly sponsors SUMA’s annual convention and addresses its delegates. This keeps strong the working relationship with officials in communities where SaskPower employees live and work.
Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM)
SARM works on behalf of all of Saskatchewan's nearly 300 rural governments developing policy positions and delivering programs. It also recognizes remarkable contributions by an individual to their community by presenting the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan. SaskPower sponsors this award honouring a retired reeve, councillor or administrator for their service to their neighbours.
SARM also brings together a total of approximately 900 officials by holding six June District Meetings spread across Saskatchewan. SaskPower sponsors the annual SARM June District Meetings as a means of keeping relations strong with rural officials throughout the province.
Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association (SVFFA)
The SVFFA works to offer volunteer fire fighters the opportunity to help shape the future of fire service within Saskatchewan. SaskPower sponsors two annual training events for its members each year.
Saskatchewan Science Centre
SaskPower has been a funding partner with the Saskatchewan Science Centre since its inception in 1988, providing an annual cash and in-kind contribution of approximately $450,000. SaskPower also provided funding for the Sunshine Heights permanent solar power exhibit.
Saskatchewan Safety Council
Since 1995, SaskPower has partnered with the Saskatchewan Safety Council to deliver safety education to Saskatchewan school children through the Power Pac Program. Specially-trained teen ambassadors deliver both urban and rural presentations. Rural presentations focus on farm safety hazards, such as machinery and animals, while urban presentation focus on electrical hazards within and around the home. More than 10,000 Saskatchewan students take part in presentations each year.
Skills Canada Saskatchewan
SaskPower is the Presenting Sponsor of Skills Canada Saskatchewan - a partnership of business, labour, education, government and students that works to promote the development of technology and trade-based skills for the purpose of future employment. The annual event provides a forum for students to compete in over 25 trade and technology areas and has been held in both Regina and Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST)
SaskPower’s annual donation to SIAST Palliser’s Electrical Engineering Technology program enables students to learn new skills on state of the art equipment. These skills can be directly applied to generators and motors installed in many of SaskPower’s generating facilities across the province.
University of Regina
SaskPower supports the Faculty of Engineering through a number of initiatives, including their Educating Youth in Engineering and Science (EYES) All-Girls summer science program. Designed for girls in grades 4-9, the program helps to generate enthusiasm for science and engineering. The EYES program is also taken into a number of schools throughout southern Saskatchewan.
University of Saskatchewan
SaskPower is proud to sponsor the Sci-Fi Girl Power program, which is a science and technology-based camp exclusively for girls in Grades 5-9. The goal of these camps is to improve confidence, strengthen skills and have fun while learning about possible careers in science-related fields.
Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA)
Since 1982, SaskPower has partnered with the SWNA to recognize outstanding Saskatchewan residents aged 8-18 through the Saskatchewan Junior Citizen of the Year Awards. SaskPower contributes four $3,000 bursaries to award recipients in support of their post-secondary academic pursuits.
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC)
In 1996, SaskPower entered into a 30-year Diamond Legacy sponsorship agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada, providing annual funding of $115,000 to support partnership projects relating to habitat protection and restoration, youth education, and research.
Meewasin Valley Authority (MVA)
In 2001, SaskPower committed $100,000 to the Meewasin Valley Authority in support of the SaskPower Kilometre Trail Extension in Saskatoon. SaskPower also donated a voluntary easement of 1.8 acres on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River for the purpose of accommodating future Meewasin Trail development. Over one million visits are made to the Meewasin Trail each year.
Chaplin Nature Centre
In 2003, SaskPower partnered with the Chaplin Nature Centre to enable the expansion of the interpretive display area at the Centre. The expansion allows for the live broadcast of shorebirds on Chaplin Lake – considered one of the most critical refuges for shorebirds in all of North America – back into the Nature Centre's viewing monitor and over the Internet.
Saskatchewan Association of Agricultural Societies and Exhibitions (SAASE)
The Clean Team is a unique partnership between SaskPower, SAASE, and 15 agricultural societies across Saskatchewan. Youth groups collect and recycle waste materials on fair grounds during annual exhibitions. Benefits include waste reduction at local landfills, revenues for local non-profit groups and year-round access to refuse and recycle bins donated by SaskPower.
Saskatchewan Environmental Society
SaskPower is a major supporter of the Destination Conservation Saskatchewan (DCS) program. Teams of students, teachers, administrators and custodians gather to learn about energy conservation and waste reduction. DCS is delivered in conjunction with SaskPower’s Energy Solutions program.
Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council
SaskPower is the proud sponsor of Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Week, which raises public awareness about waste and its effects upon our environment. SaskPower’s sponsorship provides information, resources and practical activities to community organizations, businesses and the public to encourage them to contribute to solutions regarding waste-free living.
Nature Saskatchewan
Through Nature Saskatchewan's PlantWatch program, citizen scientists throughout Saskatchewan track bloom times of common native plants. This data enables us to learn more about climate change, greenhouses gases and simple lifestyle changes that can make a big difference to our environment. SaskPower also funds Stewards of Saskatchewan, which is an umbrella for three landowner stewardship programs – Operation Burrowing Owl, Shrubs for Shrikes and Rare Plant Rescue.
Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF)
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation has been operating its annual Youth Outdoor Leadership and Conservation School since 1970. Since its inception, over 1,000 girls and boys aged 14-17 have participated. Through this program, young people from across Saskatchewan are able to develop their skills as safe, ethical and experienced outdoor leaders.
Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA)
SaskPower provides annual funding to the SPRA in support of the Communities in Bloom program in Saskatchewan. This grassroots initiative recognizes community participation and projects involving beautification, heritage and environmental awareness. Communities across the province compete, generating civic pride and local participation.
Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin
Saskatchewan Envirothon features teams of high school students demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science, natural resource management and ecology. The two-day competition tests skills in aquatics, forestry, renewable energy, soils and wildlife management through written exams, field tests, and oral presentations.
