Dr. Michael Mehta is Professor of Sociology at the University of
Alberta and Executive Director of the Population Research Laboratory.
He specializes in science, technology and society, with a special interest
in health and environmental risk issues, including biotechnology,
nanotechnology, nuclear safety, and blood safety.
Dr. Mehta has held academic appointments at the University of Saskatchewan
(Sociology), York University (Environmental Studies), and Queen's University
(Policy Studies and Environmental Studies). He is also a co-founder of the
Environmental Studies Association of Canada, and he sits on the Board of
Directors for Canadian Blood Services.
Dr. Mehta holds a BA in Psychology, a Master's degree in Environmental
Studies, and a PhD in Sociology, as well as post-doctoral training in Policy
Studies. He was appointed to SaskPower’s Board of Directors in 2004.
