Chief Tammy Cook-Searson is the first woman to lead the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, one of the largest and most progressive First Nations Band in Canada. On March 28, 2008, she began her second consecutive three-year term as chief. Prior to her present role, she served as a social worker and an elected Band Councillor for eight years. As an entrepreneur, Tammy has owned and operated a marina since 1993.
Chief Cook-Searson is President of Kitsaki Management Limited Partnership, the Band’s economic development initiative with several businesses in various sectors. She has also served on numerous local and provincial boards.
Chief Cook-Searson is proud of her First Nations heritage and is a fluent Cree speaker who was raised on the trapline. She enjoys participating in outdoor sports activities and is an avid marathon runner. In recognition of her community service, she was honored with the 2006 Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and also the 2002 Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.
Chief Cook-Searson and her family reside in La Ronge, Saskatchewan.
