Before the Interview

  • Research! Learn everything you can about SaskPower and our customers to see how you'll contribute to our ongoing success. A good place to start is the home page of www.saskpower.com.
  • Read the job description thoroughly. Think about why you're the right person for this job and how your experiences, knowledge and skills match the job qualifications. Prepare two or three examples for each qualification that show you're capable of the duties the job requires. We'll ask you to recall specific past experiences that have prepared you for this job; these experiences can be from all parts of your life including work, school, volunteer and sports activities.
  • Plan the day of the interview carefully. Be on time. Dress appropriately and avoid wearing perfume or cologne, as many people have allergies to scented products.

During the Interview

  • Try to relax. The interview should be nothing more than a good conversation about a great topic - you! Maintain eye contact and be aware of your body language.
  • Take your time. Focus on the question then take a little time to formulate the best answer. If you don't hear the question clearly, feel free to have the question repeated.
  • Stick to the basics. When and where did the situation occur? Who was involved? What happened? What was the outcome?
  • Focus on your skills. Remember that each question we ask is to learn more about your specific skills. There are no trick questions.
  • Be specific. Avoid phrases such as "I believe" or "I think" or "I suppose" unless the interviewer asks for your opinion about something.
  • Avoid the oversell. The examples you give will speak for you and whether or not you have the required skills. Be straightforward and provide details, but don't use each question as an opportunity to tell us why you should be selected for the job.
  • Stay focused. Try to only use one specific example per question. You'll be asked to provide another example or more detail, if needed.
  • Ask questions. There will be time to ask questions at the end of your interview. It's a good idea to ask thoughtful questions about SaskPower, the position and the next steps in the process.
  • Remember to thank the interviewers.
