Project Assessment and Approvals Coordinator – Dana

No typical day
The environment needs champions, and Dana Turnbull has taken up the challenge.
Equal parts cartographer, advisor and diplomat, Dana Turnbull works tirelessly to make sure the construction of SaskPower facilities complies with provincial and federal environmental regulations.
Wherever a new transmission line or generation facility is being built, Turnbull is behind the scenes making sure construction doesn't disrupt the environment, as well as facilitating talks between SaskPower crews and government regulators.
It's not an easy task, especially when you work for a utility company whose area of operations is 652,000 square kilometres.
"There's no typical day," says Turnbull. "Depending on where each particular project is in the overall environmental assessment process, my job can become very different from one day to the next."
More than maps
Luckily Turnbull has access to the SaskPower state of the art Environmental Screening System (ESS) to help her out. The ESS gathers environmental information from nearly 20 sources, including Ducks Unlimited, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, and the Heritage Resources Branch, and lays it all out on a grid map of the province.
Still, Turnbull does more than look at maps all day.
Why SaskPower?
I get the most satisfaction from working with the different parties involved.
"I get the most satisfaction from working with the different parties involved, from our crews here at SaskPower to the Ministry of Environment and the regulators. Each project is unique, especially major projects, so we're always dealing with something new."
