Living in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan's motto is "From many peoples' strength" and there's little doubt that the people of this province are among its greatest assets. With a friendly, can-do attitude, we're known far and wide for our warm welcome and Saskatchewan pride! Here are just a few of the reasons why it's great to call Saskatchewan home!

  • Cost of living – Housing costs are lower, and homes are affordable for most families; vehicle insurance costs are lower; the province is committed to having the lowest-cost utility service bundle in Canada. That helps to make vacations, vehicles and other amenities affordable too.
  • Commute times – With an average commuting time of 20 minutes, you'll get to and from work quickly and have more time to spend with family, volunteer organizations or just relaxing.
  • Health care system – We're the home to Medicare and health care remains a priority in this province. You pay no health care premiums.
  • Education – We have a top-notch K-12 system and excellent post secondary institutions including technical colleges and universities. Your child can also enjoy extracurricular activities, like sports teams, drama clubs or bands.
  • Spectacular scenery – Grasslands, forests, rivers, lakes, a northern desert with giant sand dunes, a breathtaking sky (we are the Land of Living Skies afterall), vast open spaces and incredible plant and animal life.
  • Vibrant culture – Saskatchewan is home to a rich and talented community of artists, actors, dancers, musicians and so much more. Many celebrate traditions handed down from one generation to the next, providing ample opportunity to experience diverse cultures right here at home.
  • Getting involved – People helping people has always been a Saskatchewan way, so it's no surprise that we're known as the volunteer capital of Canada. Whether helping to host a national event, or assisting with a school fundraiser, you'll find all sorts of opportunities to get involved in your community and make life-long friends.
