Commitment to Diversity

We believe that our workforce should be as diverse as the customers we serve. Building a diverse workforce encourages a creative and cultural environment where everyone is treated with fairness and respect. Diversity benefits everybody at SaskPower and contributes to our success.
Diversity = success
Some of the reasons why SaskPower was chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2010:
- Senior leaders from all business areas are committed to diversity in the organization. Every employee has a role in creating a culture of inclusion where individual differences are embraced.
- SaskPower wants to be the employer of choice for Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, visible minorities and women in under-represented occupations. Hiring managers and supervisors receive education directly from representatives from each of these four groups about concerns and issues faced to ensure challenges can be addressed.
- Employees receive meaningful training and regular workshops to create awareness of diversity in the workplace.
- SaskPower actively recruits with diversity in mind. For example, job openings are advertised with community organizations.
- We track the progress of our diversity-related recruitment goals and regularly report progress to senior management.
- Employee affinity groups, representing Aboriginal employees, employees with disabilities, women in under-represented roles and visible minorities, have an active role in helping to develop SaskPower overall diversity strategy.

Employee affinity groups
At SaskPower, employee affinity groups have an active role in developing the corporation's overall diversity strategy. Employees who join these groups voluntarily make a difference in furthering diversity initiatives within SaskPower and the greater community. The shared vision of the affinity groups is to position SaskPower as an employer of choice within their respective communities.
Affinity group members attend career fairs and events representing designated groups. They also provide feedback and advice on how to integrate diversity into training materials, company communications, and the business in general.
