Annually, SaskPower provides $1.4 million in support of hundreds of events and activities across Saskatchewan. Our commitment helps organizations in the areas of community involvement (including charities, culture and sport), business, education, as well as those that support the environment. We also focus on diversity events targeted at aboriginal people, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and women in under-represented roles.

The following are samples of the more than 150 groups that SaskPower partners with each year.

Community involvement

United Way

Where ever our employees are involved in their local United Way campaign, we match their contributions by 85 per cent. The annual donation by SaskPower to the various United Way campaigns run at local offices throughout the province is in excess of $166,000.

Saskatchewan Curling Association

We are proud to support major women's curling events across Saskatchewan. As the title sponsor, we partner with the Saskatchewan Curling Association (SCA) to deliver four major curling events: the SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts; the SaskPower Southern and Northern Women's Playdowns; and the Provincial Natural Ice Women's Bonspiel.

Cultural Events

SaskPower partners with various groups throughout Saskatchewan in support of cultural events. A sample of that list includes:

Taste of Culture, The Battlefords; Yorkton Film Festival; Windscape Kite Festival, Swift Current; Mosaic, Regina; Souris Valley Theatre, Estevan; Back to the 50's, Melfort; Motif Moose Jaw Multicultural Festival; Back to Batoche; Nipawin Folkfest; Saskatchewan Book Awards, Regina; Festival of Words, Moose Jaw; and Prince Albert Winter Festival.

Diversity

Special Olympics Saskatchewan

We partner with Special Olympics Saskatchewan to deliver Training for Life breakfasts to the business communities in Swift Current and Prince Albert. These events increase awareness of the needs of Special Olympics Saskatchewan and are co-hosted with two Western Canada Hockey League teams: the Prince Albert Raiders and the Swift Current Broncos.

We're also a major sponsor of Special Olympics Saskatchewan's school-based program, SOActive, which provides students who have an intellectual disability with the opportunity to become physically active and participate in quality athletic experiences.

Aboriginal

Northern Reading Program

We partner with the Pahkisimon Nuy?eah Library System to improve literacy and share the enjoyment of reading, writing and working with numbers.

Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games and Winter Games

The Saskatchewan First Nations Summer and Winter Games, hosted under the auspices of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer games. We are proud to provide funding to the host communities.

Business partners

Business Excellence Awards

To build stronger ties to our business partners, we sponsor the Business Excellence Awards in more than a dozen locations across the province.

Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association

Through our sponsorship of two annual training events for members, we're helping volunteer fire fighters shape the future of fire service in the province.

Education

Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology

Our annual donation to SIAST Palliser's Electrical Engineering Technology program enables students to learn new skills on state-of-the-art equipment. These skills can be directly applied to work at many of our power generating facilities.

University of Regina

We support the Faculty of Engineering through a number of initiatives, including Educating Youth in Engineering and Science (EYES), an all-girls summer science program. Designed for girls in grades 4–9, the program generates enthusiasm for science and engineering. The EYES program is also taken into a number of schools throughout southern Saskatchewan.

University of Saskatchewan

We're proud to sponsor the Sci-Fi Girl Power program, which is a science and technology-based camp exclusively for girls in grades 5–9. The goal of the camps is to improve confidence, strengthen skills and have fun while learning about possible careers in science-related fields.

Environment

Ducks Unlimited Canada

In 1996, we entered into a 30-year Diamond Legacy sponsorship agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada, providing annual funding of $115,000 to support projects relating to habitat protection and restoration, youth education and research.

Saskatchewan Environmental Society

We are a major sponsor of the Destination Conservation Saskatchewan (DCS) program, which teaches teams of students, as well as school teachers, administrators and custodians, about energy conservation and waste reduction. DCS is delivered in conjunction with SaskPower's Energy Solutions program.
