SaskPower's Cost of Service Study

SaskPower, through the direction and guidance of the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (SRRP), embarked on a Cost of Service Study (COS) in mid-2007.

COS and rate design methodology are used by SaskPower to ensure that each customer class pays a fair reflection of the total cost of electrical service they receive. These independent reviews are conducted every five years. The study now underway includes:

A review and assessment of SaskPower’s existing COS model and rate design method;
A review and assessment of common and accepted methodology in the electric utility industry in Canada and the United States;
A verification that the current methodology is consistent with accepted electric utility practices and is appropriate for SaskPower’s system characteristics; and
A proposal for any suggested modifications to SaskPower’s methodology, including the reasons for recommended changes.

A final report is expected from the SRRP in August, 2008. More information about the Cost of Service Study can be found on the SRRP's web site.
