These requirements apply to the installation of service to any standard farmstead, farm irrigation, feedlot or other qualified farm operation or seasonally operated irrigation system used exclusively for agricultural purposes. These requirements also apply to the installation of service to a residential dwelling (acreage), which is not situated within a pre-serviced subdivision.
Nine steps to getting your power line installed to your new farm or acreage:
- Apply early in the planning stage by completing the online application form, or by contacting us at 1-888-757-6937.
- Your site plan must be included with your application.
- We will provide you with a tracking number for your service application. Keep this number for reference if you need to call us.
- We will provide you with a price for electrical service at your location. A letter of quote will be provided for your approval and signature. This quote is valid for 30 days. In order to proceed, this document must be signed and returned to us along with a payment, if required. Your prompt attention will decrease your wait time for service.
- Once we've received your signed approval to proceed, a site visit will be arranged and a construction drawing will be prepared. This construction design will be provided to the owner for approval and signature. Any additional documents that require signing (easements) will also be included. Read these documents carefully. Once signed, any changes you request may result in additional charges.
- We will apply for any necessary permits, easements and regulatory approvals required to construct your service on your behalf. Since these approvals are requested from outside organizations, this process may impact service delivery timelines. Construction crews will be tentatively scheduled.
- You must ensure the service route on your property is clear of debris or obstructions. If required, we'll cut and clear brush and trees, as well as cut and repair fences. These additional costs will be included in the cost of the service.
- The area where underground facilities will be installed must be within 150mm (6") of finished grade.
- If applicable, we'll forward a final invoice to you after construction has been completed.
Three steps to getting a meter installed and energized on your new farm or acreage:
- You must purchase and submit an electrical permit to the SaskPower Electrical Inspections Department before your meter can be installed. See the gas and electrical permits and inspections page for information and to download a permit form. The Electric Service Requirements (Section 1) document contains more information on the electrical permit requirements.
- The application for the meter installation must be made by the person(s) who will be responsible for payment of the power bills. Two pieces of identification for each person will be required at the time of application.
- The service address listed on the electrical permit must match the address provided on the service application. Without this document we will not install the meter or energize your service.
Buried supply service and point of delivery
We will install a buried supply service within the farm yard work area. The transformer may be either pad-mounted or pole mounted as circumstances require.
The point of delivery for farm services, up to 200-amps, is normally a SaskPower supplied rural metering box. The ownership of facilities to the point of delivery will remain with SaskPower. The supply and installation of service cables from the point of delivery are the responsibility of the customer. The location of the supply transformer and the point of delivery will be by mutual agreement after technical and accessibility issues have been considered.
For complete information on service requirements, points of delivery, metering, safety clearances and separation from other facilities, please refer to the Electric Service Requirements (Section 2).
Please note:
The meter installation is separate from the service installation and therefore may not occur at the same time.
This new electrical service will be put into account billing and be subject to minimum bills when the meter is installed or sixty (60) days after service has been made available, whichever is sooner.
