These requirements apply to the installation of service to a residential dwelling that is situated on a pre-serviced lot, within a registered subdivision.
Getting a power line installed to your new home
- Apply early in the planning stage by filling out the online application form, or by calling us at 1-888-757-6937. We will provide you with a tracking number for your service application. You will also need to provide a site plan.
- Your house number must be visible from the street.
- Your house must be backfilled and the lot within 150mm (6") of finished grade.
- You must ensure the service route is clear of debris or obstructions, such as dirt piles and lumber, from the supply point to the meter socket.
- After meeting the above criteria, notify us that you are ready for your service to be installed. A SaskPower representative may do a site visit to ensure your requirements have been met and the site is ready. You will be given an approximate date of service installation at this point. Depending on the weather and our work load, this may take as long as 3 to 4 weeks.
Getting a meter installed and energized at your new home
- You must purchase and submit an electrical permit to the SaskPower Electrical Inspections Department before your meter can be installed. When you hire a contractor, your contractor is responsible for obtaining your necessary permit(s).
- Visit our gas and electrical permits and inspections page for information and to download a permit form. The Electric Service Requirements (Section 1) document contains more information on the electrical permit requirements. The application for your meter installation must be made by the person(s) who will be responsible for payment of the power bills. Two pieces of identification for each person will be required at the time of application.
- The service address listed on the electrical permit must match the address provided on the service application. Without this document we will not install the meter or energize your service.
- The main panel inside the house must be wired and connected to the meter socket. The main breaker must be in the OFF position before the meter can be installed.
Buried supply service
We normally install a buried supply service to all new consumers. Circumstances may dictate that an overhead service remains or is installed. You should advise us of any abnormal site conditions such as rocks, concrete or underground structures that may prevent a buried supply service.
Point of delivery
The point of delivery for residential services is normally the customer supplied meter box for underground services or the customer supplied service mast for overhead services.
The point of delivery will normally be located within one metre of the point on the building nearest to SaskPower's supply facilities. An alternate customer preferred location may be permitted if the location does not present technical or physical obstacles. Charges for the additional trenching and cable may apply.
For complete information on service requirements, points of delivery, metering, safety clearances and separation from other facilities, please refer to the Electric Service Requirements (Section 2).
Please note:
The meter installation is separate from the service installation and therefore may not occur at the same time.
This new electrical service will be put into account billing and be subject to minimum bills when the meter is installed or sixty (60) days after service has been made available, whichever is sooner.
