How we find and fix outages
- Before we can fix an outage, we need to know about it. That's where you come in. We often learn of outages when a customer calls in. Once you're sure the outage isn't related to the electrical equipment within your home or business, call us toll-free at 310-2220. Please don't assume someone else will call. Chances are they're assuming the same. The more calls we receive, the easier it is to pinpoint the likely source of the outage and estimate the size of the affected area.
- We then dispatch service personnel to assess the situation. Their safety is a primary consideration. The time of day, location of the problem, number of other outages and weather also affect how fast we can get to your area and how quickly we can fix the problem.
- Tracking the origin of the outage and finding its cause can take time if the electrical system is under ground, or the line is long or difficult to reach. Once we identify the cause of the outage and assess the damage, we begin repairs as quickly as possible.
- When repairs are complete, we restore power. Occasionally, the power goes out again. This could mean another undetected problem. By phoning us again, you can help us isolate the problem.
Multiple outages
When faced with multiple outages, we prioritize as follows:
- Life threatening or hazardous situations like power lines that have fallen on a road or vehicle
- Large outages – Main lines and major equipment that return power to the largest number of customers
- Small, isolated outages – Secondary lines and neighbourhood equipment
