Small appliance tips

Small appliances, big savings

Here's how you can get the most from your small appliances:

  • Keep your appliances clean and well-maintained so they will operate efficiently.
  • Use your microwave instead of a conventional stove. It uses less electricity, cuts down on cooking time and produces less heat in the kitchen.
  • The more you use your toaster oven and slow cooker – instead of your stove – the more you'll save.
  • Use an electric kettle and heat only as much water as you need. Electric kettles are more efficient than stove-top kettles or microwaves.
  • Extend your cooking times when using a slow cooker so you can use a lower setting.
  • Don't overfill the toaster oven. You'll use less electricity if there’s enough space for air to flow around your food. Also, keep your toaster oven in the open when you’re using it so air can flow freely around the outside.
