When completed in 1963, SaskPower's head office building in Regina was praised as a symbol of prosperity in Saskatchewan. As well as being a unique architectural achievement, the building marks an important time for the province of Saskatchewan. The pertinent events leading to the construction of the new building included:
- In 1949 the Saskatchewan Power Commission became a crown corporation, and the Rural Electrification Program was launched. The following decade would be a period of unprecedented development for the power industry in Saskatchewan.
- As a result of SaskPower's rapid growth, by the early 1960's head office
staff occupied over 11 different locations in Regina.
- After a chance meeting in 1956, SaskPower's general manager, David Cass-Beggs, commissioned Regina architect Joseph Pettick to design the new SaskPower head office building.

An Expanding Corporation
- Construction of the curving head office began in 1961 with excavation of
the site and was completed in the summer of 1963. Because the design
focused on repetition and simplicity of detail, the building costs
were no greater than that
of
a rectangular building.
- Pettick's unique "flowing Y" design was developed to avoid cars exiting onto Victoria Avenue, and to provide north facing offices with a view of the park. The design was a departure from typical office buildings at the time, and was influenced by the expressionistic architecture of Brazilian Modernism.
- The exterior and interior were designed with the prairie landscape in mind. Over 650,000 wheat coloured bricks cover the building's exterior.

- Many changes have been made to our head office building over the years,
largely to meet the modern requirements for security and energy conservation.
SaskPower's head office marks a period of incredible growth and prosperity
in Saskatchewan
and the building remains a recognizable symbol for SaskPower.
