On a bright, wintry morning in November, 1890, a young Regina entrepreneur, Peter Lamont, broke from his usual routine to walk to a little powerhouse at the corner of Dewdney and Smith. Lamont's engineer was already there stoking a head of steam in the plant. Without much fanfare, Lamont pulled an electrical switch, which illuminated the first electric lights in Regina. Lamont's little plant supplied power to a handful of customers, but only during hours of darkness because, as he later wrote, “...there were no hot plates or percolators then.”
