Shand Greenhouse is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SaskPower and illustrates our commitment to sharing the responsibility of a clean, safe and biologically-diverse environment.
Shand Greenhouse, built in 1991 adjacent to the Shand Power Station, works to offset the environmental impact of generating and distributing electricity
over a vast territory. Coal-fired power production, the source of over
two-thirds of the province's electricity, is believed to contribute to
global warming through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The greenhouse supports SaskPower's environmental objectives through programs that increase awareness of the relationship between electrical generation and the environment. It also fosters environmental protection through the propagation of native vegetation.
