located on the South Saskatchewan River near Elbow

three 62 net MW units with a total capacity of 186 net MW

The station was built as a result of a combined federal-provincial decision in 1958 due to the need for more electrical energy to meet the expanding needs of Saskatchewan homes, farms and industries. In addition, new water supplies were needed for irrigation and recreation

The Coteau Creek Station draws water from Gardiner Dam, located about one kilometre upstream
