SaskPower's Mercury Thermostat Recovery Program ensures mercury from old household thermostats is safely collected and disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.
With SaskPower customers buying new energy efficient thermostats to replace their older wall-mounted household thermostats that contain mercury, this program helps ensure that the mercury from those older household thermostats is not released into our air, land and water. Although the amount of mercury found in the older household thermostats is relatively small, it can still be toxic to birds, fish, wildlife and humans.
How to participate
It is easy for all SaskPower customers to participate in SaskPower's Mercury
Thermostat Recovery Program:
Bring your standard, household wall mounted thermostat to a participating SaskPower customer service office in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, North Battleford, Yorkton, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, or Weyburn.
SaskPower staff will take the thermostat and dispose of it safely.
Important information
Leaking or damaged thermostats, or other products with mercury will not be accepted by SaskPower as part of this program.
Customers are urged to not remove the mercury from an old thermostat, but should bring the entire thermostat to SaskPower for recycling.
