With more than 445,000 customers, SaskPower knows the importance of reliability. You trust us to provide dependable service to help power your businesses, homes, farms and so much more.

From time-to-time, our customers have questions about our business and we're committed to providing the answers. Our Business Administration Manual is a comprehensive resource containing the policies, and terms of reference that guide us in our day-to-day operations.

A copy of the manual is available for viewing at our customer services offices throughout Saskatchewan.

Electrical Rates

Our rate schedule reflects the price that our customers pay for the power they use. For example, a residential customer's bill will include a basic monthly charge, as well as a charge for the electricity used. Commercial operators and manufacturers bills may also reflect a demand charge.

Electric Service Business Policy/Residential Services

If you're constructing a new home, condominium or apartment complex, SaskPower will extend a new service to the building. SaskPower may invest toward the provision of a service meeting normal design standards to your premise, lot or suite. Customers requiring "extras", such as a yard pole or additional points of delivery, are responsible for those costs.

Our Residential Services Section provides you with more information about new service applications and customer responsibilities.

Electrical Service Business Policy/General Services

General Service customers include commercial and retail operators, manufacturers, oilfield production, processing and in-field pumping facilities, as well as seasonally operated non-agricultural irrigation systems. Each of these operations is assessed individually to determine how much SaskPower may invest toward the provision of a new permanent service.

Electrical Service Business Policy/Farm

SaskPower may invest in permanent service extensions to farms, greenhouses, feedlots and other farm operations, including agricultural irrigation systems. In lieu of an electrical service farm customers requiring electricity for a livestock watering facility may be eligible for a SaskPower grant toward the purchase of wind or solar powered pumping unit from a Saskatchewan based supplier.

Electrical Service Business Policy/Streetlights

SaskPower will own and maintains lighting structures used to illuminate streets, highways, pedestrian walkways, parks, parking lots and schoolyards, provided the area to be lit is accessible, SaskPower stock coded material is used and the lighting meets SaskPower's design criteria. Customers have the option to install, own and operate their lighting. SaskPower's investment in street lighting will vary from project to project.

Electrical Service Business Policy/Alterations to SaskPower facilities

If there is a requirement to move poles or lines due to road construction, building moves, removing hazardous conditions, repairing structural damage or to accommodate private land use decisions, for example, if a homeowner is constructing a garage or installing a swimming pool, SaskPower must be contacted. SaskPower may cover a portion of the cost of some alterations, depending upon the work being done.

Electrical Service Business Policy/Non Utility Generation

For customers who want to generate up to 100 kilowatts (kW) of electricity in order to offset power purchased from SaskPower, we have developed a small power producer's policy. Any customer-owned generating facility, wind and solar-powered are typical examples, must meet SaskPower's interconnection requirements to ensure compliance with safety, power quality and system security. There is also a provision for SaskPower to purchase any excess energy generated by the customer. Policies also exist for customer owned generating facilities greater than 100 kilowatts.

Terms and Conditions

As a large supplier of energy, we touch most people in some way. While you expect SaskPower to provide a safe, reliable and continuous flow of electricity, there are basic requirements that our customers must meet as well. For example, customers must complete a Request for Electrical Service Form when applying for a new service installation.

Electrical Service Practices/Service Calls

SaskPower exists to provide electricity to its customers and there will be times when we must prioritize service calls. Hazardous and emergency situations are considered a high priority. Routine calls are those that do not require immediate attention, and they will be responded to during regular working hours.

Electrical Service Practices/Charge Services

SaskPower's objective is to strive for a safe and continuous supply of electricity to our customers and together with the technical aspect, there is a business side of providing electricity to customers. This section outlines charges for additional services that SaskPower provides to our customers.

Electrical Service Practices/Account Collection Policy

When it comes to paying for the power they use, the majority of SaskPower customers use the payment option most convenient for them, from pre-authorized payments, to paying at one of our customer service offices. But there are times when customers cannot keep their accounts current. In such cases, SaskPower will take reasonable steps to collect the money owed.
