Respect the power of water

The water in and around SaskPower dams, spillways and reservoirs may not look hazardous, but it is dangerous and can even be fatal. Respect the power of water and stay safe when enjoying outdoor water sports and leisure activities.

Stay alert

  • Make sure to heed all warning signs, buoys and barriers
  • Ice near dams, hydroelectric stations and reservoirs can be thin because of the changing water flows beneath it
  • Water upstream and downstream from a hydroelectric station can be dangerous because of changing water flows
  • If the water level is rising or the flow of water is increasing, get out of the water

Stay well back

  • Don't get too close to dams or hydroelectric stations
  • Avoid the water's edge above and below hydroelectric dams. Large amounts of water can be released and swamp your boat or put you in a strong undertow
  • Don't anchor or tie your boat to buoys or barriers
  • Stay back from the edge of reservoirs

Stay off

  • Stay off all dams and hydroelectric stations unless on marked walkways or observation areas
