If you own a small business in Saskatchewan, learn how you can switch to energy efficient lighting and start saving money and power. The Energy Efficient Lighting Program for Small Businesses provides small business owners with information and up to $1,000 worth of energy efficient lighting upgrades!
How the program works
Step 1: Get started
A SaskPower representative will contact you to see if your business qualifies, or you may contact us at 1-855-258-3929 to see if you are eligible. If your business qualifies and you are interested in participating, an appointment will be set for a licensed assessor to conduct a lighting assessment of your business.
Step 2: Identify your options
An approved assessor will conduct a lighting assessment of your business. All assessment costs will be covered by SaskPower. The assessor will let you know about additional energy efficient lighting options that will best suit your needs.
Step 3: We install
Once the lighting options have been determined, we will install up to $1,000 worth of free energy efficient lighting options (compact fluorescent lights, LED exit signs and fluorescent tubes) for your business. Certified electrical contractors will professionally install the new light fixtures and recycle all of the old ones for you.
Why make the switch to energy efficient lighting?
Making the switch to energy efficient lighting is simple. Your business will receive effortless upgrades that will go a long way in reducing your power consumption and managing your monthly electricity costs.
The benefits include:
- Switching from old T12 fluorescent tubes to High Performance T8 fluorescent tubes can reduce your annual lighting costs by 40 per cent
- Energy efficient lighting helps reduce your business's impact on the environment
- CFLs can last up to eight times longer than standard incandescent bulbs
- LEDs use approximately 90 per cent less energy and last 15 to 20 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs

Successful completion of all steps will enable electrical contractors to become a part of the electrical contractor referral list for the program:
- Contact SaskPower at 1-855-258-3929 to learn more about the program and participation requirements.
- SaskPower will provide you with the electrical contractors' program information package, which requires successful completion of the following:
- A company credit check
- A half-day SaskPower Health & Safety training session
- Review and sign the Contractor Agreement and Terms & Conditions
- If Step 2 is successfully completed, you will need to submit a list of your customers that are eligible for and aware of the program.
- SaskPower will review the customer list and contact customers as per the terms and conditions to ensure they are customers of the applicable electrical contractor and that they are aware of the program. If a customer is found to be unaware of the program and/or the electrical contractor, the electrical contractor will not be able to participate in the program.
Once all steps are successfully completed, the participating electrical contractor will be able to complete the installation component of the program for eligible customers.
