There's a lot of interest in self-generated electricity in Saskatchewan, and there seems to be the most interest in generating electricity from wind. With this in mind, we've undertaken the Self-generated Electricity Demonstration Project for Rinks, to explore the potential benefits of smaller-scale (up to 100 kilowatts), self-generated wind power projects, which will provide Saskatchewan-specific lessons and performance data.
If you're thinking about generating your own power, our demonstration project will provide you with helpful information so you can make an informed decision about whether to self-generate electricity.
We would like to thank the many communities that expressed interest in participating in our project.
A total of 79 communities submitted eligible site proposals and all of them were impressively well done. Based on the level of interest, we doubled the number of demonstration sites from two to four. This increase helps us better demonstrate the potential of wind generation in Saskatchewan.
Selected sites
Congratulations to the following four selected communities!
- Central Butte
- Eatonia
- Shaunavon
- Strasbourg
Submitting a proposal for this project took considerable effort and learning on the part of each community. Through your support, we'll be able to learn even more about the potential of wind power as a source for self-generated electricity.
