Look for the ENERGY STAR® logo when buying new appliances to select the most energy efficient one in its class.
- Keep your appliances clean and well maintained so they will operate efficiently
- Use your microwave instead of a conventional stove. Your microwave uses less electricity, cuts down on cooking time and produces less heat in the kitchen
- Use your toaster oven and slow cooker more often instead of your conventional stove. By using a small appliance instead of the stove, you're saving money
- Extend your cooking times when using a slow cooker so you can use a lower setting
- Don't overfill the toaster oven. You'll use less electricity if there's enough space for air to flow around your food
- Use an electric kettle instead of a stove-top kettle for boiling water. Electric kettles are more energy efficient. For even better efficiency, only boil the amount of water you need
