Signs Not Requiring Field Wiring

Signs Requiring Field Wiring

These are signs that are not self contained within an external shell and in fact require the sign contractor to install some external wiring within or on the building to which the sign is attached. Examples of this would be neon outline lighting as well as field wired neon sign products where high voltage GTO cable and accessories are installed on or within the building. Field wiring is not to be confused with assembly wiring. Assembly wiring is covered under the manufacturer's certification and assembly is described in the assembly instructions.

Permits and Licenses

The above regulations, in some cases, require an electric permit prior to sign installation. Electric permits are available only to electrical or restricted sign contractors licensed in the province of Saskatchewan. If you are not yet licensed, a restricted sign contractor's license is available from the Government of Saskatchewan, Licensing Branch, telephone 787-4530. A certificate/diploma showing successful completion of a sign installation course, or an examination may be required to prove qualification prior to any restricted sign contractors licenses being issued.

Permit Fees

Permit fees for sign installations will follow the existing SaskPower Electric Permit Fee Schedule and will include only the material and labor for the field wiring portion of the sign and not the cost of the sign itself. Typically this would include items such as GTO cable, fittings, housings, etc. as well as transformers and associated material.
