Updates and Changes
 
Recent additions and revisions have been incorporated into SaskPower’s Electric Service Requirements. These changes are now in effect, and supercede any previous requirements.

Listed below are the significant changes. Please refer to the applicable section for further details of the change.

Section 1 – General Requirements for Electric Service

1.1 Definitions   - Added “Paid Electrical Permit”
1.4.4.1 Electrical Permit   - Temporary service valid for a period of less than 2 years

Section 2 – Technical Requirements For Service up to and Including 5 kV

2.1.3 Point of Delivery   - Added requirement for fused disconnect after 400 A self-contained meter socket
    - Added service termination / CT enclosure (single and polyphase)
    - Clarification of connection of consumer supplied cables to SaskPower’s pad-mounted transformer
2.1.4.1 Buried Service Requirements - Single Family Detached Dwelling   - Added service termination / CT enclosure (single and polyphase)
2.1.4.3 Buried Service Requirements - Apartment Buildings / Condominiums   - Added service termination / CT enclosure (single and polyphase)
2.1.6.2.1 Metering - Meter Mounting Devices - General   - Clarified the requirement for current bypass switch for services greater than 200 A that do not use the 400 A self-contained meter socket
2.1.6.2.5 Metering - Meter Mounting Devices - Specifications   - Changed the requirement of the allowable size of the subdivisions from calculated load to the total ampere rating of the two consumer service disconnects. Applies to 200 A and 400 A dual lug meter sockets.
2.1.6.3 Metering - Electrical Room   - Added requirement for accessibility from the exterior of the building or from a common hallway
    - Added requirement for accessibility via stairs, and not via a ladder.
2.1.6.4.1 Metering - Instrument Transformers & Enclosures - General   - Added requirement for consumer to supply and install the instrument transformer enclosure and meter socket for service voltages at 4160 V.
2.1.6.4.3 Metering - Instrument Transformers & Enclosures - Instrument Transformer Enclosures   - Added option for locating instrument transformer enclosures outdoors.

2.3.6.1 Metering – General   - Added irrigation valves to services not requiring metering.
2.3.6.2.1 Metering - Meter Mounting Devices - General   - Clarified the requirement for current bypass switch for services greater than 200 A that do not use the 400 A self-contained meter socket
2.3.6.2.2 Metering - Meter Mounting Devices - Self-Contained Meter Sockets   - Meter sockets to be allowed indoors when security or safety is an issue.
2.3.6.2.4 Metering - Meter Mounting Devices - Transformer-Rated Meter Sockets   - Meter sockets to be allowed indoors when security or safety is an issue.

Section 3 – SaskPower System Characteristics and Power Quality Requirements for Consumer Loads

No changes.

Section 4 – Requirements for Consumer Owned Substations Greater Than 5 kV

4.2.2 SaskPower Required Drawings   - Clarification that in addition to the requirements of the Electrical Inspections Division, three copies of drawings are to be submitted to the SaskPower Business Manager.
    - Clarification that approval for the substation must be obtained from Electrical Inspections Division.
4.3 Service Requirements   - Extensively rewritten to clarify requirements. PLEASE REVIEW ENTIRE SECTION.
