Mandate
Shand Greenhouse is a wholly owned subsidiary of SaskPower and it's premier environmental asset. The very design and purpose of the greenhouse reflects the facility's environmental education and conservation mandate within SaskPower.
The greenhouse is heated by some of the waste heat generated by the adjacent Shand Power Station. Under normal circumstances, much of this waste heat would be lost to the atmosphere. Shand Greenhouse harnesses this waste heat and uses it to propagate and grow hundreds of thousands of tree and shrub seedlings annually. Each spring, these seedlings are distributed free of charge to school groups, conservation organizations and individuals interested in protecting and enhancing Saskatchewan's environment.
