Native Plant Program
What is the Native Plant Program?
Saskatchewan is a vast province, with large expanses of prairie ecosystems. Over time, human activities such as resource development and agriculture have altered much of Saskatchewan's prairie habitat from its native state.
Shand Greenhouse has developed a program to help restore some of these native ecosystems. The greenhouse will custom-grow forbs and grasses for reclamation and conservation projects in Saskatchewan.
Who can apply?
The program is available to non-profit and charitable organizations, corporations, government agencies, commercial enterprises and private organizations. Shand greenhouse will grow native grass and forb plugs for projects such as:
- Land reclamation projects
- Erosion control projects
- Creation of wildlife habitat
- Enhancement of existing habitat/prairie
- Any environmental use of native plants
The program is not intended to compete with Saskatchewan's commercial native plant growers.
