Sustainable Growth

The Air Quality Management System was established to gather input from federal and provincial governments, industry and relevant non-government organizations to further develop regulations and requirements. We operate within this system to ensure we adhere to base-level industrial emission requirements, collaborate on air quality standards and help to define air zone management and monitoring.

The Management and Reduction of Greenhouse Gases and Adaptation to Climate Change Act

Saskatchewan has indicated its desire to regulate GHG emissions at the provincial level. It is expected that the Act Respecting the Management and Reduction of Greenhouse Gases and Adaptation to Climate Change (Bill 126) will be finalized and passed into law in 2012.

Southeast Saskatchewan Airshed Association

Established in 2005, the Southeast Saskatchewan Airshed Association (SESAA) is a non-profit organization of public, industry, government, and non-government members. Its goal is to collect credible, scientifically defensible air quality data for the southeast Saskatchewan region, and to make this data freely available to all stakeholders. This organization monitors sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide in the southeast corner of the province. We proudly serve on the board of directors for this organization and assist in monitoring ambient air quality.

Emissions Control Research Facility

The Emissions Control Research Facility (ECRF) located at Poplar River Power Station was built specifically to test mercury removal technology on flue gas. We also use the ECRF to test new technologies associated with emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, particulates, ash removal and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
