Sustainable Growth

Nature Saskatchewan is a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation and understanding of our natural environment through education; and, through conservation and research, to protect and preserve natural ecosystems and their biodiversity.

We are a proud funding partner of Nature Saskatchewan programs.

Habitat stewardship

SaskPower and Nature Saskatchewan are dedicated to conserving prairie habitats for the endangered burrowing owl and piping plover, and the threatened loggerhead shrike. To protect these habitats, SaskPower abides by voluntary stewardship guidelines and honours stewardship agreements.

Important Bird Areas caretakers network

This project aims to establish ongoing protection and monitoring at Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Saskatchewan. This is done by engaging local groups and individuals to assess, steward and raise the profile and conservation status of IBAs through a provincial and national network of IBA caretakers.

Last Mountain bird observatory

This observatory nurtures an interest in the diversity of bird species in Saskatchewan. The observatory offers bird identification and monitoring techniques and advice to monitor migrating land birds, focusing on Boreal neo-tropical migrant birds to determine trends for conservation efforts.

Plantwatch

This project encourages communities and individuals to undertake actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by raising awareness about climate change through the study of plant phenology — the study of seasonal blooming dates. Because spring flowering of perennial plants occurs largely in response to heat accumulation, tracking the blooming dates of 18 native and two non-native plant species helps to monitor trends in climate change.

2011 International Piping Plover census

The 2011 International Piping Plover census (also titled People, Partnerships and Plovers), aims to create awareness of Saskatchewan's biological and ecological diversity. We are helping to fund the Saskatchewan portion of this continent-wide 2011 international Piping Plover breeding census.
