Beneficial for all customers
When you flick a switch, you expect a light to come on. Partnerships ensure that this is the reality nearly all of the time. By diversifying our power portfolio, we are ensuring the optimal mix of generated and purchased power and at the same time providing opportunities for small- and medium-sized power producers to work with us to power the province.
Private partnerships are not new to SaskPower. In 1998, SaskPower partnered with Husky Oil and Transalta to co-generate power at the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Upgrader. Annually, this partnership provides SaskPower with enough electricity to power a city the size of Saskatoon, and is still in place today.
A greener future
Greener power generation technology is being invented and created all over the world. Partnerships with companies creating this technology will ensure that SaskPower is positioned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move towards a greener, brighter future.
Good for SaskPower
Other power generation companies may have access to resources, locations and opportunities that may not be available to SaskPower. On the flip side, SaskPower can generate revenue through partnerships that allow access to SaskPower resources, locations and opportunities. These partnerships ensure SaskPower can achieve the goals as set in the Future Power Plan.
