Sustainable Growth

Benefits of polygeneration Concerns about polygeneration
  • Low CO2, SO2 and NOX emissions
  • Multiple product supply streams
  • Can be used in the base load power mix
  • Complexity of systems
  • Cost is considerable
  • Fuel source is not abundant in Saskatchewan
  • Toxic by-products
  • Non-renewable

Polygeneration is an efficient method to produce electricity:

  1. A solid or liquid fuel (e.g. petroleum coke) is gasified into a combustible synthetic gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
  2. This gas is then used to fuel natural gas turbines.
  3. The waste heat from this process is used to generate additional electricity.
