SaskPower procures additions to its generation supply over 100 kW as needed. All viable options are evaluated in terms of need and economic opportunity.
SaskPower has linked two technical documents setting out the interconnection requirements for generation projects over 100 kW. One document sets out the requirements for interconnection at voltages 25 kV and below. The other sets out the technical requirements for interconnection at voltages 72 kV and above.
The scope of the document covering interconnection at voltages 25 kV and below covers three-phase generators at single site installations with a total installed capacity of up to 1000 kW. The limitations of SaskPower's distribution system (facilities operating at 25 kV and below) are such that projects with an installed capacity greater than 1000 kW may be required to interconnect at voltages 72 kV or higher. Generation projects greater than 1000 kW will be considered for connection at 25 kV or lower; however, the complexities of such installations are such that they cannot be addressed in a general requirements document. Proponents who are assessing installations with an installed capacity greater than 1000 kW should contact SaskPower to discuss the specifics of their project.
