Farmyard Power Line Relocation Program

Safety and convenience

The Farmyard Power Line Relocation Program helps farmers reduce the risk and inconvenience of working around SaskPower overhead power lines.

Under this cost sharing program, SaskPower will invest a major portion of the cost to bury or relocate 25 kV or 14.4 kV overhead power lines in electrified farmyards and immediate work areas.

SaskPower will invest 75 per cent and all you pay is 25 per cent of the total construction cost to a maximum of $2000. SaskPower will invest in the rest.

Please note, the Farmyard Power Line Relocation Program is different from the Rural Electrical Distribution Program (REDP). Through the REDP, SaskPower will replace Saskatchewan’s existing overhead rural electrical distribution system. Overhead lines in agricultural fields will be moved and replaced with lines in road allowances. Large-scale construction will begin in 2010.

Eligibility

Only farm customers on the SaskPower electrical E34 rate are eligible for this program.

If you are a rural customer on a different rate structure there are other cost sharing policies that may apply to your situation, please contact SaskPower for more information.

Approved applications will be carried out subject to annual construction schedules on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limited budget for the program each year that will be established annually as part of the SaskPower Business Plan. If you miss out on the program, you may have to reapply the following year.

How the Farmyard Power Line Relocation Program works

The first thing you need to do is dial 1-888-SKPOWER to apply for the Farmyard Power Line Relocation program. SaskPower may need to contact you for more information. You will receive a formal quote outlining the cost and details that apply to your situation.

If your farmyard is eligible, the overhead primary line will be installed underground using the most economical methods, without compromising SaskPower construction and safety standards. The existing overhead transformer pole will be replaced with a padmount transformer. You will be responsible for burying any private power lines.

At your request (and approval by SaskPower), the existing overhead transformer power pole may be left for your convenience. SaskPower will remove the hardware and you can assume ownership by signing a Pole Transfer Agreement.

SaskPower can also provide a cost for other requested alterations within the farmyard, such as relocating the transformer or meter to a more convenient location. We will work with you to determine your best options. Contact SaskPower to inquire about costs for these or other services.
