The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility at Boundary Dam Power Station experienced lower than expected production in December due to extended maintenance at the power plant. Once the power plant returned to service on Dec. 15, the CCS facility came back online shortly there after and captured an average of 2,506 tonnes of carbon dioxide per day for the remainder of the month. In total, 32,749 tonnes was captured in December for a total of 506,848 tonnes in 2017 and 1,839,335 tonnes since CCS facility operations began in 2014. Those captured emissions are the equivalent to taking 127,000 vehicles off Saskatchewan roads in 2017 and a total of 460,000 since CSS facility operations began.
