BD3 Status Update: December 2015
January 5, 2016
The carbon capture process continued to operate well in December. We brought the system offline to address a minor mechanical issue on the power plant side of the process. We took advantage of this down time to also execute a planned chemical cleaning of the carbon capture facility that we brought forward from January. The six-day cleaning (from Dec. 12-17) was completed on time. This does mean we are below our production target for December, but we expect to catch up in January as we have no maintenance planned for the month. Despite the outage in December 2015, we captured the highest amount of CO2 of any month since the facility went into production in October 2014.
We continue to operate the carbon capture process at a level that meets our commitment to our CO2 buyer, and federal emission regulations (approximately 65% capacity). We also continue to commission the on-site acid plant so that we can transform captured sulphur dioxide into saleable sulphuric acid for industrial use.
