SaskPower is committed to ensuring a reliable, sustainable and cost-effective supply of power for our customers and the communities we serve.
Rate increases are periodically required to improve our province’s aging power system and meet the growing demand for electricity. Any changes to your power rates must first go through a public rate application process with an independent review by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel.

Why Are We Asking for a Rate Increase?
The increase is needed to fund investments in the province’s electrical system to maintain reliable service for our customers and keep up with the growing demand for electricity.
SaskPower continues to set records for the total amount of power needed by customers at one time. This increased demand for service is expected to continue into the foreseeable future. While the demand for power grows, SaskPower also faces the pressing need to renew aging electrical infrastructure. Much of the province’s electrical system was built 30 to 50 years ago and has reached the end of its productive life.
In the past five years, SaskPower has spent over $6 billion on capital investments (including power purchase agreements). Going forward, the company is forecasting the need to keep making capital investments of about $1.4 billion a year.
