Post-secondary Awards Program

We bank on your potential. We award nearly $90,000 each year to Saskatchewan students in various post-secondary programs. To apply, contact the awards office at your educational institution.

Industry Awards

Two award categories are available:

  1. Entrance — for students entering first-year studies; and
  2. Continuing — for students entering second-year studies and beyond.
  • Up to 27 awards ranging from $500 - $3,000 each will be presented each academic year.
  • Recipients may have the opportunity to participate in a student work term.
  • Of the total awards granted each year, preference is given to self-identified diversity applicants, as indicated on the awards application.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a SaskPower post-secondary award, a student must:

  • Learn more

    • Demonstrate strong academic achievement. Applicants must be in good academic standing with at least a 70 per cent average in their last completed year of study.
    • Be enrolled in a full-time certificate, diploma or degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan in the following electrical industry-related programs: business administration, management studies, electrical engineering, industrial systems engineering, electronic systems engineering, civil engineering, environmental systems engineering, power engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, civil engineering technology, instrumentation engineering technology, chemistry or business information systems.
    • Be a Saskatchewan resident. You are considered a Saskatchewan resident if any of the following is true: you have always lived in Saskatchewan; you or your spouse filed a Saskatchewan income tax return for the last tax year; or your parents filed a Saskatchewan tax return for the last tax year.

Criteria for selection

Award applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Learn more

    • Academic achievement; and
    • Leadership qualities and balanced lifestyle (i.e. community involvement, participation in extra-curricular activities).

     

Trades Awards

Two award categories are available:

  1. Entrance — for students entering level one apprentice studies; and
  2. Continuing — for students entering level two or higher apprentice studies.
  • Up to 15 awards of $1,500 each will be presented each academic year.
  • Of the total awards granted each year, preference is given self-identified diversity applicants, as indicated on the awards application.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a SaskPower post-secondary award, a student must:

  • Learn more

    • Demonstrate strong academic achievement. Applicants must be in good academic standing with at least a 70 per cent average in their last completed year of study.
    • Be enrolled in a full-time certificate program at an accredited post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan in the following electrical industry-related programs: heavy duty mechanic, industrial instrument mechanic, industrial mechanic (millwright), machinist, electrician or welder.
    • Be a Saskatchewan resident. You are considered a Saskatchewan resident if any of the following is true: you have always lived in Saskatchewan; you or your spouse filed a Saskatchewan income tax return for the last tax year; or your parents filed a Saskatchewan tax return for the last tax year.
