Why Choose Energy Efficient Lighting?

  • Save money on your power bills — energy efficient lighting can save you up to 40 per cent on your annual lighting costs. For example, replace your T12 fixtures with high performance or reduced wattage T8 fixtures and save up to 35 per cent.
  • See enhanced tenant productivity and customer value with improved levels of lighting and output for your operations.
  • Lower your need for maintenance, resulting in reduced maintenance costs.
  • Help protect the environment by using less electricity.
  • Save instantly — SaskPower automatically offsets the cost to upgrade from selected standard lighting options to premium energy efficient lighting options at point of purchase.

Incentive Eligibility Requirements

The Commercial Lighting Incentive is open to any non-residential electricity consumer that operates in Saskatchewan and purchases lighting and electrical equipment through an electrical contractor. No need to wait for mail-in rebates; the savings are instant when your contractor purchases the discounted lighting equipment through a participating electrical distributor.

The equipment purchased must comply with the all eligibility criteria as described in the Qualified Product List. To get started, simply ask a certified electrical contractor to explain which premium energy efficient lighting options are best for your business.

How to Participate

  • If you are an electrical and lighting distributor:

    1. Provide electrical contractors with the necessary information regarding the  Qualified Product List, the existing technology that the qualified equipment replaces and recommendations on the best energy efficient lighting options for the project. Any electrical contractor purchasing lighting equipment on behalf of a non-residential electricity consumer is eligible to participate.
    2. Work with the contractor to fill out the Commercial Lighting Incentive Application Form and ensure the customer or end-user signs it. The customer’s signature is necessary to verify that the customer was aware of the program and received the equipment at the discounted price.
    3. Submit the signed application form along with the invoices by email. Specification sheets are required when there are no other qualifying criteria (e.g. CEE, DLC or ENERGY STAR criteria). SaskPower will verify the qualifying equipment and provide the incentive amount to you.
  • If you are a non-residential electricity consumer in Saskatchewan:

    1. Contact your electrical contractor who will purchase the lighting equipment from a participating distributor.
    2. Your electrical contractor and the distributor will identify which energy efficient lighting products qualify under the incentive.
    3. Your electrical contractor will pass the discount on to you with your final invoice. You will be required to sign an application form verifying that you are aware of the program and have received the lighting equipment at a reduced price.
  • If you are an electrical contractor:

    1. Contact a participating distributor about the Commercial Lighting Incentive to receive the Qualified Product List.
    2. Tell the distributor about the project and give them a description of the current system to ensure the best approach for your client's needs is selected.
    3. Work with the distributor to complete the Commercial Lighting Incentive Application Form. Once the form is filled out, you will need to have the customer sign it before you deliver it to the distributor when you place your order to receive the discount.

    Eligible Lighting Products

The Commercial Lighting Incentive makes use of eligibility criteria to determine which lighting products are eligible to receive incentives. Each type of product will have different eligibility requirements. Some of the equipment categories reference external lists, such as the CEE, the DLC, or ENERGY STAR® Certified Light Fixtures and Certified Light Bulbs.
