Save Power. Save Money. Help Protect the Environment.

Municipal Ice Rink Program

The SaskPower Eneraction Municipal Ice Rink Program targets hockey arenas and curling rinks with artificial ice plants that have high utility bills. The age of the facility doesn't matter; every facility has the potential for significant energy savings.

The program consists of two phases:

  1. We offer you access to detailed energy usage reporting through an in-house monitoring and control system, which identifies your facility's operational inefficiencies in real time.
  2. We offer you access to a retrofit assessment that identifies recommended improvements, which includes a detailed cost/benefit analysis.

This program does not provide any grants or financial incentives for equipment. It provides assistance with the application for funding from existing provincial and federal energy efficiency initiatives.

Noticeable savings for you

  • Save up to 20 per cent when you install an energy monitoring and control system.
  • Save 15 per cent when you install a basic retrofit (such as adding an infrared ice temperature sensor and brine pump cycling controller).
  • Save approximately 40 to 60 per cent when you install a major retrofit (such as rebuilding your ice plant; replacing your furnace with a heat-reclaim system; and upgrading your lights and fixtures with a new energy-efficient lighting and dimming system).

Participate in the program

Annual program space is limited. Complete and submit the program waiver form and the program rink information form (submission details found on each form). Once we've received your information, we will contact you to discuss the next steps.

This program is for everyone! Improve your facility today and your utility savings will pay for your improvements.

Expressing interest in the program holds you to no commitment, but helps us evaluate your facility and advances your cause for further provincial and federal funding initiatives and programs.
