SaskPower Invests $13.5 million in Regina’s Downtown Power Grid

April 19, 2024

As temperatures begin to warm, SaskPower will begin work upgrading and improving the electrical grid in Regina’s central business district to ensure ongoing reliability.

Investing $13.5 million in 2024-25, SaskPower’s work will focus on infrastructure on 11th Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive and is expected to be completed this fall.

“This investment in Regina’s downtown will increase capacity and improve reliability to ensure our customers have the power they need, while also allowing our crews to identify and resolve outages quicker, thanks to smart technology” said Ryan Neufeld, SaskPower Vice-President of Engineering & Construction. “We understand that construction can be disruptive, which is why we’re coordinating with the City of Regina to minimize the impact to downtown Regina.”

This year’s work involves replacing or removing equipment that has reached or is near the end of its life. Pending weather, construction is scheduled to start this April on 11th Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive.

  • 11th Avenue: April to October
    • Installing and connecting new duct banks, replacing over 4 kilometers of power cable
  • Saskatchewan Drive: April to August
    • Installing new duct banks, replacing 400 metres of power cable

Since 2019, SaskPower has invested more than $45.8 million in improving central Regina’s electrical system.
