We’re supporting a new 10 megawatt (MW) wind power project. Capstone Infrastructure is building this southwest of Riverhurst. This will connect to the grid and help power the province. To support this, we need to build a new:
- section of high voltage power line (less than one km)
- lower voltage power line (about 15 km)
Why we're doing it
We’re connecting Capstone’s wind project to our power grid. This will boost service reliability in the Riverhurst area.
By adding renewable energy like wind will help us:
- reach our goal to lower our emissions
- power a cleaner energy future
Our progress so far
We've picked a site for the new substation. We engaged landowners and elected officials through this process. We'll start building this and the new power lines in June 2019. We expect this to be in service in late 2020.
Respecting the local environment
Rather than taking cropland out of production, the substation will be on pasture land. The new high voltage line will be connecting to an existing line in the area. This will reduce the amount of new construction needed.
Benefits to local communities
We use local contractors for our projects whenever possible. See current opportunities.
Keeping you informed
We’ll be in Riverhurst for an open house on April 17. Everyone’s welcome to attend! For more information about this project:
