We’re adding 200 MW of renewable wind energy to the province by 2021. With this addition to our system, we'll be able to power up to 86,000 homes. This new wind farm’s being built south of Assiniboia.
Why we’re doing it
Our goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 40% from our 2005 levels by 2030. Adding renewable energy sources like wind power is part of this plan.
Our progress so far
We issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to find candidates for the project. Once selected, we evaluated them. From that, Potentia Renewables won the bid.
Minimizing the impact to you
We encourage Potentia Renewables to:
- exchange information
- work together with local communities
Respecting the local environment
The project site is located south of Assiniboia. The project met the environmental criteria in the RFP. Potentia Renewables is responsible to secure all environmental permits for the project.
Benefits to local communities
This project and the interconnection facilities needed could generate construction and material supply opportunities for local vendors. Potentia Renewables will manage and operate the facility through an agreement with SaskPower; we will purchase the generated power and deliver it to our customers.
Keeping you informed
SaskPower encourages Independent Power Producers to engage with local communities, landowners and other stakeholders while developing any renewable project. We’ll provide more information here as it becomes available.
