Our E.B. Campbell Hydroelectric Station was powered up in 1963. It’s now nearing the end of its operating life and needs upgrades.
Refurbishing E.B. Campbell will cost less than building a new power station. It’ll also increase efficiencies while creating clean reliable power.
Our progress so far
Construction on Unit 3 started in August 2019. Unit 3 was commissioned and put into service in May 2021.
Construction on Unit 4 started in September 2020, and was commissioned and put into service in June 2021.
The remaining units will be refurbished as follows:
- Unit 6: August 2021 to June 2022
- Unit 5: August 2022 to June 2023
- Unit 1: August 2023 to June 2024
- Unit 2: August 2024 to June 2025
Minimizing the impact to you
Construction was scheduled during low flow periods of each year. This allows us to maintain power generation availability when water levels are high.
Respecting the local environment
Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% from our 2005 levels by 2030. These upgrades are one way for us to reach that goal.
It’ll also allow us to be more efficient by creating more power using the same amount of water.
Benefits to local communities
We’ve invested over $10.8 million towards Indigenous and local employment opportunities for this project through focused procurements, local hiring, and community engagement.
