We’re moving part of our power line east of the community of Brighton. Construction begins April 1, 2019 and we expect to be finished June 1, 2019.
Why we're doing it
Dream Development has asked us to move a section of our power line in the Holmwood sector. This is to support the expansion of McOrmond Drive.
The line was originally built on the outskirts of town. But to make room for the city’s future growth it must be rerouted. This is the first of many requests by the city for community development.
Our progress so far
Right now, we’re adding a switch structure to ensure power can still get to all our customers. This work needs to be done before we can start the project.
We’ve already finished:
- environmental studies
- technical studies
- engineering design
Minimizing the impact to you
All the work being done is on our right-of-way in open fields owned by Dream Development. This helps reduce any impacts, like:
- traffic delays
- effects to agriculture or businesses
Respecting the local environment
The city and Dream Development have prepared the site for us. But this means we could still find environmental sensitivities. If we do, we'll follow our best-practice standards.
Benefits to your community
This project will create better access for the residents of the Holmwood sector.
Our goal is that the new section of line will:
- be as visually pleasing as possible for residents
- complement future development plans
Keeping you informed
We’ll continue to engage with customers and the community affected by this project. Updates for the project will be posted to this page.
Here’s what our construction schedule looks like:
- Structure Framing and Setting – April 1 to 15
- Structure Erection and Installation – April 15 to May 10
- Stringing the line – May 13 to 17
- Power up the line – May 20 to 24
- Salvage the old line – May 27 to 30
