Twenty-three New Customer Projects Approved for Power Generation Partner Program
January 30, 2020
SaskPower has approved the second intake of customer projects that will generate power to sell to the Company as part of the Power Generation Partner Program (PGPP).
“I am excited to announce the next batch of customer generation projects, which will create economic opportunities for SaskPower customers, while adding up to 34 MW of renewable and low-carbon electricity to our province’s power grid,” said the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskPower.
Eleven projects have been accepted to develop 10 MW of renewable solar power and 12 have been accepted to develop 24 MW of carbon neutral, non-renewable flare gas power.
“The PGPP helps our oilfield customers reduce their carbon footprint, increases solar generation opportunities and support SaskPower’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 40 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030,” said Shawn Schmidt, SaskPower’s Vice-President of Distribution and Customer Services. “This year’s intake also included an energy bid price to ensure we have the most cost-effective power generation while keeping customer projects viable.”
Priority was given first to projects in areas with planned capacity, next to those who had the lowest energy price bid and then to other areas throughout the province. The maximum allowable project sizes are 1 MW for renewable projects and 5 MW for carbon neutral non-renewable technologies. Only projects meeting the Program’s eligibility criteria were considered for acceptance. The PGPP is a two-year program, with the option to extend it to three.
