BD3 Status Update: May 2021

June 11, 2021

Employees working inside the Carbon Capture facility.

During the month of May 2021, the carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at Boundary Dam Power Station captured 72,236 tonnes of carbon dioxide. The average daily capture when CCS was online was 2,342 tonnes per day with a peak one-day capture of 2,487 tonnes. The CCS facility experienced a very brief outage because of issues caused by wet coal, however CCS quickly recovered and restarted. Additionally, an online chemical clean performed near the end of the month provided relief to the system and allowed for an increase in production just ahead of the planned outage in June.
