We’re investing $60 million to rebuild aging power lines in the North Battleford region – ensuring safe, reliable power for local communities now and into the future.
Why We're Doing It
The current power lines are nearing the end of their useful life. By rebuilding them, we're helping make sure power stays reliable. The rebuilt lines will also have a longer expected useful life of about 80 years.
What to Expect
The overall project includes two main upgrades:
- Rebuilding 68-kilometres of line between the North Battleford Switching Station and the Landis Substation.
- Replacing several structures between the North Battleford and the Lashburn. Most of this line was upgraded in 2018, but a few structures still need to be replaced.
Most of the work will happen within SaskPower’s existing right-of-way.
Our Progress So Far
We’re in the early stages – planning, defining the scope, and consulting with Rightsholders, stakeholders, and landowners.
We’ve also started field studies to explore alternate routes in two areas. These reroutes will help us avoid water bodies and unstable ground.
Respecting the Local Environment
What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.
As we plan projects, we use tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.
As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:
- waterbodies
- sensitive lands
- wildlife and their habitats
- heritage resources
We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.
